The latest version of AKS Text Replacer can now replace text not only inside files, but in the file and folder names, e.g. it can do the batch renaming of files or folders.

Actually, for user the difference between renaming file or replacing text inside is only about 1 option:

Select "Replace text in files" and the program will work as a text replacer, select "Rename files" and the utility will rename files according to your wished.

To specify the “search” and “result” text you should use the second tab “Replace”.

For instance on this screenshot we have specified the text to find "doc" and the replace text "document_", the program will change the text "doc" to "document_" in names of files.

And as for normal text replace AKS Text Replacer will ask you, if you want to rename certain file or left it unchanged or rename all files in this folder. In this way AKS Text Replacer can be used for both – batch file renaming and text replacing.

The latest version of AKS Text Replacer allows to search for the text in the beginfning or in the end of the file.

For instance, you can make AKS Text Replacer to search for all files that start with some text.

• Use special characters: ##FileBegin## and ##FileEnd## in the “Text to find” field
• You can use also use the same special characters in the “Replace with” field

If using ##FileBegin## or ##FileEnd## in the “Replace with” field, then the program will insert the replace text in the beginning or in the end of the file.

Text Replacer now supports in search and replace special symbols:

• ##NewLine## – New Line
• ##TAB## – TAB
• ##65##  – Decimal Coded Symbol (this will be “A”)
• ##$65## – HEX coded symbol (this will be (“e”));
• Replace in file beginning and end – ##FileBegin## and ##FileEnd## special symbols

Sometime you are not sure about what you need to find and what need to replaced. For this very case we have designed a search only function in Text Replacer.

1. Run AKS Text Replacer
2. Specify search path and keyword
3. Click “Search only” button:

Text Replacer will search for your keyword and once something will be found it will show the dialog, which will suggest you standard actions (No to file, No to folder, No to all), so you should tell the program, if you want to find more files like this or not. “Yes” buttons will be disabled, as this is “search only” mode, not replace:

Most of our users are webmaster and programmers, who know exactly what they are looking for and what kind of software they need to do the same job, but in less time. For instance, by using replace with preview and not just blind search and replace.

But sometime we have questions like “I’m user of your … software and I’ve downloaded your text replacer – what is it? Why do I might need it?”.

Below are few key ideas about what kind of software is text replacer, who might need it, and how to find utility that you need:

• Text replacer utility allows to scan specific files, find some text inside the file and replace it with another text.
• Why not do this manually? If you have 2-3 files, you can do it manually, but if you have 20-30 files, or it is repeating task, then get a search and replace utility.
• Why yours software? Why not freeware? We’d recommend to start with freeware software in order to understand what kind of features you need. In short: most freeware software will not have a preview function, their user interfaces unfortunately are not so friendly as they should be, most likely you will not be able to search for multi-lines, there will be very limited filtering options and ability to exclude something from search.
• Why yours software and not some other commercial text replacer? Different work processes requires different search and replace utilities, we don’t know what specific is there in your daily routine and how you’d like to automate it, so trying several tools, including ours is a good idea. Search options helps to specify what files should be search and in what folders. Some files and folders can be ignored.

Here text to search and text to replace should be specified. User can specify several sets for search and replace. Below are check boxes for ignoring letter case and for using regular expression.

AKS Text Replacer can include and/or exclude files by certain date and time filter, it support exact time filters, e.g. if necessary user can specify not just hours, but minutes and seconds. Also, filter by file size is available.

Replace options specify if program should automatically create backup files, if it should ask for confirmation when replace text, if original file should re-written or new files should be saved to some other location

File and replace dialog appears to show what text will be replaced and how the new file will look like after the replace. User can agree on replace for this very file or agree on replace for all files of such type (by mask) or agree on replace for all files in this directory.

There are a number of setting avaliable in AKS Text Replacer that help to make search and replace safer, by minimizing the possibility of false replacement operations.

Replace Options in AKS Text Replacer allows to specify if program should overwrite original files, or copy replaced files, if it should create backup files before replace.

AKS Text Replacer provides an ability to use “exact time” filter. For instance, you need to filder files that are older than 2 hours, with AKS Text Replacer you can specify not just hours, but minutes and seconds. It is very useful, especially, if files to search in were created with some automation software.

AKS Text Replacer deals with multi folders at once, also, it provides ability to exclude certain folder from the search.

User can specify, if it is necessary to scan subfolders, what file types should be taken into account and what files should be ignored by mask.
